This piece responds to a brief for a small entrance way stand. A rebating technique, unusual for drawers, creates the slim protruding border. The black bean is a tall North-East Australian rainforest tree that grows along streams and riverbanks, with a unique rich chocolate brown colour.

About Rolf Barfoed

Rolf is a Canberra furniture designer and maker. He leads a team of cabinetmakers who make timber furniture commissioned by designers and retailers. A highlight of 2023 was designing and producing an epic 24-seat dining suite using rare black bean timber, incorporating complicated and innovative techniques.
