Abstract Marquetry Pieces, 2022 – 2023

The cabinet is inspired by the art deco work of French furniture designer Emile Ruhlmann including the signature torpedo leg. The wall-hung abstract marquetry is a new development for Peter. The geometric pieces are inspired by repeating tile elements, while the curved abstract designs are influenced by Russian artist Kandinsky’s early work.

About Peter Young

Peter’s workshop is in Moss Vale, NSW Southern Highlands. For 20 years he has made furniture in different styles, often incorporating marquetry and parquetry. Commissioned for Brisbane’s newly completed Anglican Cathedral, he created a bench seat with lettering that can be read either "Is this what God intended" or "What God intended is this".
